Boosting Your Immunity

Immunity is a very hot topic when it comes to health and nutrition.

The truth is our systems are always ‘on guard’ to fight bugs.

There are things we can do help our body do its best to fight viruses or unwanted bacteria.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise can be a way to prevent chronic illnesses, such as heart disease and keep weight under control. But exercise can also be a friend to your immune system. Exercise can promote good blood circulation, which allows your cells and substances of the immune system to move through your body freely and do their job efficiently.

Drink Plenty of Fluids

Experts quote that you should try to drink 4 pints of water per day to keep well hydrated. That can be hard. Here are some top tips: Try drinking a glass of water when you wake up to start your day off right. Your body dehydrates during sleep. If you like warm drinks in the winter, try non-caffeinated teas, which you can include in your daily water tally.

Get A Good Night's Sleep

Sleep is a regenerative process for your body. When you are sleep deprived your natural immune cells, or T cells, go down, and inflammatory cytokines (inflammation cells) go up. That means good sleep results in strengthening your immunity.

Stress Less

Easier said than done sometimes, however stress drains your ability to stay strong. If you have big or little stressors daily, your system is constantly pushed to overcome that stress. Think about trying to make time for "self-care." doing things that "refill your tank”: read a good book, get a massage.

Increase Immune-friendly Nutrients

There are a few key nutrients that support immunity, so it makes sense to ensure you and your family are including these in your diet on a daily basis:

  • Vitamin C: Found in all fruits and vegetables and helps increase white blood cell production when needed. It is also a key antioxidant, protecting the body against free radicals which can attack the immune system.

  • Vitamin D: Vitamin D is primarily made on the skin in the presence of sunshine but can also be found in small amounts in egg yolks, fish, liver and cheese. It is key to building a healthy immune system and Public Health England recommends that everyone takes a supplement of a minimum of 10 micrograms of Vitamin D every day.

  • Zinc: The mineral zinc is another well-known immunity booster.  It’s found in meat, sea foods, wholegrains, seeds and nuts.

  • Supplements for immunity: Chewy Vites Super Immune Adult Gummies have been specially formulated to provide optimum support for your immune system.
